
SEAMANSHIP
SKILLS
On
completion of this course the successful
sailor will be capable of manoeuvering
a dinghy or keeboat in a seamanlike
manner in moderate conditions.
The sylabus includes - windward & leeward
shores, heaving to, reefing afloat,
man overboard recovery, towing, anchoring,
sternboarding, sailing without rudder
& centreboard, recovery from
total inversion.
DAY
SAILING
On completion of
this course
the successful sailor will
have a confident, safe approach to planning
and
executing a short cruise in a keelboat.
The sylabus includes
- rigging for cruising, pilotage,
navigation and collision control,
anchoring on leeshore
to land, self rescue from inversion, improvisation
upon
gear failure.
SAILING
WITH SPINNAKERS
On completion
of this course the successful sailor will
understand how to sail a dinghy
/ keelboat rigged
with an asymetric or symetric spinnaker.
The sylabus
includes - useing crew & equipment to
good advantage, hoist, gybe
and drop, sail best
course downwind, capsize recovery including spinnaker,
hull shape and apparent wind theory, rig set up for different conditions.
START
RACING
This
course is designed to give the confidence, skillls
and knowledge to take part in club racing in good
conditions. The sylabus includes - general background,
handicap & one design racing,
sailing instructions, starting systems, flags, rigging
a racing dinghy, boat tuning, 5 essentials when
racing, rounding marks, pre-start boat handling,
transits, choosing right end of the line, race
strategy.
PERFORMANCE
SAILING
On completion of
this course the successful sailor will uderstand how to sail performance
dinghies in all wind conditions that they can expect to encounter, sailing
the bat to best advantage at all times. The sylabus includes - rig
any type of boat, make best use of all equipment to sail efficiently on
all points of sailing including spinnakers, windshifts and gusts, making
use of geographical features.
